“ Poetical, Detailed, Functional ”

HANDISLAND CRAFT was founded by Wen Lyu in 2023. After graduating from London College of Fashion（UAL）and working as a fashion designer for five years, she turned to started learning pottery in Beijing, China. During that special time, pottery truly awakened her inner passion, love for slow-living and the preciousness of handcraft.

When back to London, HANDISLAND CRAFT officially started up. It looks at how handmade things can be part of a creative approach to sustainable and slow living, connects people between the nature and the real life.

For now the studio mainly specializes on small-batch handmade ceramics, with developing and keeping exploring more possibilities in the context of handcraft, so big welcome to contact and discuss any collaboration ideas!

About HANDISLAND ceramic

I mainly specialize on design-forward handmade ceramic homewares and also the artistic ceramic buttons.

Background in Fashion & Textile is always the core of my inspiration. I try to “draping” with clay like I used to deal with a piece of fabric, then the fluid movement can be seen and felt.

Soft-form, emphasis on touch feeling, and the aesthetic influence from negative space art conception link me with my works. Each piece of my works, no matter a vase or a button, is designed, thrown/hand built, polished, glazed, and handled by myself, with patience, sincerity, respect, and love.

I wish HANDISLAND CRAFT can be a pure island for all of us, to celebrate the charms of crafts, the beauty of unique, to think more, cherish more, and last longer. Making matters.

“There are no two identical leaves in the world.” Each piece has their irreplaceable beauty, small variations in form and finish are common in hand-making. Please cherish the handmade for its human input, and enjoy those subtle moods.
